Hiking to Lac Bleu

By Lowen & Marin – October 2023

One chilly October morning, we set off on one of our favourite kinds of adventures, a mountain hike that starts in the forest and ends in the snow!

We began in the small alpine town of Evolène, where the forests were glowing with autumn colours. The trees were a vibrant mix of red, orange, and gold, and the air smelled of pine and cold leaves. As we walked higher up the trail, we passed quiet streams, mossy rocks, and a few other keen adventurers.

Then came the best part: we reached the snowline! One moment we were kicking leaves, and the next we were crunching through fresh snow. The climb up became steeper, but snow-capped mountains in the background provided real inspiration. At the top, we found Lac Bleu — a shimmering blue lake surrounded by snowy peaks. We sat on a rock, unwrapped our picnic, and ate with freezing fingers but big smiles. It felt like we were in a fairy tale.

After a long day of exploring, we hiked back down to our van, wrapped ourselves in warm blankets, sipped hot chocolate, and fell asleep before even leaving the car park. It was a perfect day, colourful forests, early snow, a magical lake, and mountain memories we’ll never forget.

Adventure tip: Bring layers, pack a picnic, and don’t forget your gloves!
